You Can Make a Difference!

The Toronto District School Board Finance Committee will meet on June 16 — their final meeting before the last full board meeting at the end of the month. Several trustees have voiced support for our cause:

You can help SAVE OUR ALT SCHOOLS by writing, emailing, phoning or reaching out to these trustees on social media to let them know you oppose any cuts to alternative school teaching budgets.

Remind them that:

• The decision to reduce the cutbacks following the May 26 Board meeting by only adding 2.5 teachers is not an acceptable solution for alternative high schools, and does not address the teacher cutbacks at the vast majority of alternative high schools

• More students, not fewer, will need alt school supports as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic

• Insufficient teaching staff means the safety of students will be compromised and these schools will not be able to provide a successful pathway to graduation for at-risk students

• Classes and programs will be cut, meaning students may not be able to graduate

Ask them to address this inequity — and to reply to your request.

Remember, these trustees are on our side. Thank them for their support so far and remind them that our entire community is behind them in supporting alt schools.
